VISTA
A program run by the External Vice President
Q: What is VISTA?
Inspired by Cal VSA's VISION UCSB VSA's VOICE, and many other mentorship programs, VISTA (Vietnamese outreach Initiative for Students Transforming Academia) is a youth mentorship program for high school students in the Vietnamese community and beyond that hopes to provide a space to encourage, empower, and foster personal growth through mentorship, guidance, and connection. Through VISTA, we will be working with high school students across the VSA and VSU spaces in the Bay Area, greater Sacramento community, and other communities in the Northern California region!

We aim to help educate and empower students from the Vietnamese community (and beyond) through discussions on navigating Vietnamese and Asian American identities, providing insight to college, giving students a tour of the UC Davis campus, and much more.

Q: Sounds fun! How do I sign up?
There are two components to VISTA: the mentors and the mentees. All participants fill out a Google Form created by VSA at UCD's EVP and is sent out by their school's representative.
Mentors:
-
Mentors are UCD undergrad students
-
Mentors are responsible for working with high school youth, facilitating activities, and creating an inclusive environment for mentees to interact with each other
Mentees:
-
Mentees are students from participating California high schools
-
Mentees show interest in meeting new people, making connections, and gaining more knowledge about college life and Vietnamese culture
Q: I'm interested in being a mentor, but I'm not a UCD student. Can I still sign up?
Yes! If you are interested in mentoring, able to accommodate the VISTA schedule, and travel to UC Davis for the in-person VISTA conference, then feel free to reach out to the External Vice President at VSA at UC Davis to apply!
